What can 3H provide for you?

A deep desire to continue learning and contributing led to the founding of Heritage, History & Her (3H), a business and website that combines my academic knowledge and practical experience to create content and experiences that make research findings accessible. My work brings findings and research to life through engagement, living history, theatrical development, interpretation and content creation. Inclusivity and diversity are the core of what I do, and each project is personalised to the client.

My content focuses on identity, the heritage sector, social and cultural history, and historical making. It’s about sharing the complex ideas and nuanced understandings about the past with the public of today.

I remain a constant student, learning from others’ experiences and knowledge and would love to collaborate, so don’t be scared to get in touch!

Using the gendering technique that encourages consideration of intersectionality, I’ll help you find the stories and experiences that objects can share. Using collections as visual props for storytelling allows audiences to engage in a truly immersive way. By finding relatable connections and experiences, I can help you get across even the most complex of topics.

How can I help you with engagement?

My community engagement workshops look at how many modern identities haven’t been ‘invented in the last 20 years’ but those with relatable experiences have existed throughout history – especially those traditionally excluded, like LGBTQ+ and Neurodivergent. These workshops aim to encourage engagement with history, helping people learn and develop their confidence when they see themselves represented. I also offer research projects and broader history and community engagement work.

They may not know today’s terms for it, or have it be part of their identity in the same way, but LGBTQ+ people have always existed - when you break from the norm, you have to create who you are yourself.
They may not know today’s terms for it, or have it be part of their identity in the same way, but neurodiversity has always existed - and people who don’t follow the expectations and rules of society tend to stick out from the norm.

Often, the information you want to share relies on having a pre-existing awareness of how things work, which means what you can share with the public becomes oversimplified. By finding relatable connections and experiences, I can help you get across even the most complex of topics.

Engagement allows you to fully adapt the offer to different audiences and reach new community groups, forming partnerships that can benefit your setting for years to come.

I’ll take your drafts and reword them to fit the different interests and values of the funders so they realise the brilliance of your plans.

In addition to the set workshops above, I’m interested in creating more workshops in collaboration with you and various interest groups. Especially relating to:

  • Place-based history: exploring your local area and who lived there
  • Forming identity and self-discovery

Interpretation

Interpretation

To me, interpretation is the method of how the information gets from the experts (be that museum professionals or the community with lived experience) to the public in order to educate them and have them share in this knowledge.

How does my interpretation experience help you?

Skills and Services

Project Work

Thinking of trying a new idea? Often organisations need to ensure an idea meets certain requirements or values—be this fitting a Master Plan or a fear that a community group may go too far off-piste. I will resolve this by researching the context around an idea and helping it adjust to wider aims. This could involve checking the accuracy of a reenactment or living history character or researching which ticketing software best fits your needs.

I combine marketing, engagement and outreach and evaluation into a single person to ensure a clear plan for project delivery. This also includes working with community partners, freelancers and local businesses to form sustainable relationships for the benefit of most.

Complex → Relatable

Often, the information you want to share relies on having a pre-existing awareness of how things work, which means what you can share with the public becomes oversimplified. By finding relatable connections and experiences, I can help you get across even the most complex of topics.

My skill in translating complex ideas and concepts into language and references a certain audience group understandings, also applies to funders. I’ll take your drafts and reword them to fit the different interests and values of the funders so they realise the brilliance of your plans.

Heritage Skills &
Intangiable History

Intangible heritage is central to our understanding of culture and where ideas come from, and hands-on experiences really help connect to how the past was ‘real life’ – with daily tasks and experiences just like today.

I’m particularly interested in learning through making and how the trying endangered crafts can help both public engagement and expert knowledge. Experimental History finds the gaps in our knowledge by practical application – with the skills and tools of a time how would they have done it?

Theatre

A background in theatre tech – especially costumes and stage management – means I’m good at creating solutions for the most unusual requests and have tried many crafts. I’m also reliable at problem-solving under pressure in front of an audience.

I’ll help you shape your ideas into a cohesive narrative that highlights your group’s strengths. Using collection as visual props for storytelling allows audiences to engage in a truly immersive way.

Access

Did you know that access is as much mental as physical? You may be able to access your space without steps but have you thought about how welcome a site is or how included marginalised groups might feel? I offer an access audits and advice on provision, allowing you to reach and engage with wider audiences – something both they and funders appreciate!
